SMS Terms of Service – Security Codes
Important: SMS Messaging is Entirely Optional and Not Required for Service Access
At North Star Transport Group, Inc. (“North Star”), all users are required to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect their accounts. You can log in with your email and password, and then complete MFA using secure methods such as Google Authenticator or other app-based one-time passcodes (OTPs). SMS is available as an MFA option, but it is not required. You will have full access to all North Star services whether or not you choose SMS, as other MFA methods provide the same level of security and functionality.
Consent
How to Opt In to SMS
After logging in with your email and password, if you haven’t configured MFA (beyond email), you’ll be prompted to select an MFA method. To enable SMS, you voluntarily enter your phone number in the MFA settings page, which clearly states: “This is optional and can be disabled anytime without affecting your account access.” By entering your number, you provide explicit consent to receive one-time passcodes (OTPs) for login verification only. No marketing or other messages will be sent. SMS is never required to log in or use North Star services, and you may choose Google Authenticator or other MFA methods instead.
Program Description
North Star uses SMS solely for sending one-time security codes to verify your identity during login attempts you initiate. SMS is not a required MFA method.
Message Frequency
You receive an SMS only when you’ve enabled SMS MFA and select it for a specific login attempt (e.g., one message per login). No automated or recurring messages are sent.
Charges
Message and data rates may apply, depending on your wireless carrier. North Star does not charge for these messages.
Opt-Out
You can disable SMS at any time in your account settings, and this will not affect your ability to use North Star services—other MFA methods or email login remain fully functional. Alternatively, reply STOP to any SMS to opt out immediately. To resume, reply START. Opting out or in does not impact account access.

If we expand SMS use beyond login verification, we will update this policy and notify users. Currently, SMS is limited to optional MFA.
